MB’s contributing food fanatics share their go-to local dishes.

Grouper from Kitchen On Main

BOUDIN EGG ROLLS AT VELEVT PIG
“My mouth is watering just writing about this new, hip place! Pop into the Ice Box to experience Velvet Pig! They practice whole-animal butchery to bring you fun snacks, sandwiches and shareables. They are also open late at night, which is perfect for the bar space. I recommend going with a group and ordering the whole menu! Whatever you order, make sure you do not skip the boudin egg rolls! Stuffed with boudin pork and pepper jack cheese, and served with mustard, they are so yummy!” – Mary Frances Clarke, Director of Development, Fuse Project

BLACKENED MAHI SANDWICH AT LOCALS
“At lunchtime, you can find me at Locals in Fairhope. It has a European feel with a beautiful patio, and it happens to be right next door to my store. I love the blackened mahi sandwich with melted cheese and onions. It comes with hand-cut fries that remind me of the ones I make from scratch. The Italian village courtyard makes me feel like I am on a mini vacation.” – Lisa White, Owner, CK Collection

AVOCADO TOAST AT SOUL CAFFEINE
“I love Soul Caffeine’s Dauphin Street spot for business meetings and quiet work, but especially when my kids agree to a one-on-one breakfast with Dad. I’m a sucker for the avocado toast, which I get fully loaded with bacon crumbles and diced tomato. And I always steal a bite (or three) when my son orders the Ron Swanson waffle, topped with maple syrup, Conecuh sausage and bacon. If I need something more sweet to go with all that savory, I go for their hot salted caramel latte.” – Sean Dudley, Musician, Actor and Attorney

BLACKENED PAN-SEARED GROUPER AT KITCHEN ON MAIN
“If you’re looking for a perfectly composed fresh fish on the Eastern Shore, look no further than the blackened pan-seared grouper at Kitchen on Main. The grouper is tender, flavorful and seasoned with just the right amount of spice. It is then topped with sweet jumbo lump crab and a rich and decadent lemon beurre blanc sauce. Then, the fish, crab meat and sauce go over a cheesy and creamy risotto that is perfectly cooked. It is absolutely delicious.” – Chace Yamagata, Founder, Baldwin County Foodies Realtor, Salt Coast Realty
